Dark retreat – TMA SEMILY
TMA SEMILY FENG SHUI

When should you enter the darkness and when should you come out?

Both the beginning and the end of a retreat have their own rhythm. Guests usually enter the darkness in the evening and return to the light in the morning, leaving enough time for a calm transition.

Entering the darkness

The usual arrival time is around 6 pm. If you need a different time, simply arrange it with us in advance according to your travel plans and needs.

An evening arrival gives you time to get to know the surroundings, settle after your journey and only then enter the darkness.

Coming out of the darkness

The retreat usually ends around dawn. We wake you and offer breakfast, which you can enjoy under the pergola overlooking the garden.

Afterwards, it is up to you whether you sit for a while, walk through the garden or share your experience with us.

The moments before you enter

Entering the cabin is simple, but for many people it feels like a significant moment. You see the garden and familiar surroundings one last time, and then the dark retreat begins.

There is no need to hurry. First you explore the cabin in the light, we show you everything important, and the retreat begins only when you are ready.

Give yourself time after the retreat too

After several days in darkness, returning to light and everyday life can feel intense. We therefore recommend not rushing and allowing yourself time for a calm transition.

If you arrived by car, we recommend waiting several hours before driving and giving yourself time to adapt first.

It is not only about the light itself. After a retreat, you may be more sensitive to stimulation, noise and a fast pace. A quiet breakfast, time in the garden and a few unhurried moments can make the return more comfortable.

Why we usually begin in the evening

An evening start naturally follows the part of the day when the body begins to prepare for rest. Reducing light and everyday stimulation may make it easier to settle and move out of your normal routine.

In darkness, your sense of time and daily rhythm can gradually change. Without a phone, artificial lighting and a normal schedule, there is more room to notice your own need for sleep, rest and quiet.

We do not present a dark retreat as a medical treatment with guaranteed health effects. Reactions to darkness and the course of the retreat are individual.

A calm beginning helps

There is nothing you need to “get done” before entering the darkness. We recommend arriving with time to spare, looking around the space, asking any final questions and giving yourself a moment to settle.

If you wish, you can also use the sauna before the retreat and make the transition from an ordinary day into darkness more gradual.
