DARK RETREAT · FOOD

Food as part of the experience

Fresh, home-cooked and mainly vegetarian food is part of the retreat and of the slower daily rhythm.

vegetarian vegan gluten-free by arrangement

For some guests, spending a whole week eating vegetables, legumes, tofu or soy may be a completely new experience—and perhaps a source of inspiration as well.

A challenge?

Before entering the darkness, you may wonder whether one main meal a day will be enough. The original text describes appetite as often becoming quieter when visual stimulation and ordinary activity are reduced. You will also generally use less energy than on a normal active day.

How the food is prepared

I, Anička, prepare the food at home. We eat the same meals as our guests, and I prepare everything with great pleasure and care. I cook fresh food every day for our four children, my husband and myself, paying attention to variety, balance and sufficient energy. I enjoy using imagination in the kitchen and draw on around twenty years of cooking experience. And I can say that I always enjoy the result.

I bring your food between 11:00 and 14:00, at a different time each day—and I certainly will not tell you what time it is.

The ingredients I use are grown in our own garden or sourced from an organic farm whenever possible. In winter I choose carefully from shops, with an emphasis on quality and freshness.

Flavour, spices and imagination

If needed, I can also prepare fully gluten-free meals by prior arrangement. You are likely to taste spices such as curry, turmeric, saffron, coriander, pepper or chilli.

Sometimes I tell you what the meal is made from; other times I leave it entirely to you so you can let your imagination and taste guide you.

If you normally eat meat, I believe the week will still introduce you to plenty of new and tasty dishes.

If, after reading this, you still want chocolate, biscuits or even salami, feel free to bring some with you. It is entirely up to you how you want to experience your stay.
